I woke up, darkness surrounding me. I tried to remember exactly what had happened. Then the memories rushed back to me, sending chills down my spine as thoughts forced there way into my mind.
Only an hour ago, my family and I were playing with a Frisbee in our backyard, when suddenly, we heard the sound of sirens. Bomb sirens. I looked around frantically, taking my sister, Maggie, by her hand and running towards the bomb shelter. By the time we had made it, and ran inside, the bombs began to fall, and everything went black. It was only seconds later when I realized that me and my sister were the only one???s that had made it.
"Maggie, where are you?" I cried. "I am over here." Maggie said. "We should get some rest." I said. "But I am not tired." Maggie yawned. Then I heard her quiet snores. I thought that I better get some sleep too. As I drifted off to sleep I though about my family. I hoped they were in a better place now.
When I woke up I saw Maggie sitting up. I told her "I should go out and see if I can find food. You stay here. Got it." Maggie nodded. I opened the bomb shelter door. I saw that the upper part of the house was gone. Carefully I walked through the wreckage of the house. I saw some cherries that survived the bomb attack. As I picked them up I wondered how they could of survived the bombs. I went back to the bomb shelter. When I showed Maggie all the food I found. She said "Yay,I'm hungry." She started to eat many handfuls of cherries. "save some cherries for later." I said. "OK."replied Maggie.
Then she started drawing with the chalk that was in here. "What are you drawing?" I asked. "Our family." she replied. I tried to swallow my tears."Maggie", I began, "I don't know if the rest of our family is even still alive." Maggie made a face. Then she started to scream and cry. I walked to her, hoping i could comfort her. But she pushed me away.
I stared at my sister. I saw that her golden-brown curls were shaking. "Maggie.", I said again, "We can look for my twin and mom and dad." She looked up suddenly. She said "Then let's get started." She started toward the door. "Wait.", I said. "What", she replied. "We should put the cherries in a safe place first.", I said. "OK", said Maggie. So we moved the cherries into a corner. "Now can we go?", Maggie asked after we were done. "Yes.", I said. She quickly ran to the door. "Wait for me.", I called. "What now?", she complained. "You have to be careful.", I said. "Oh.", she replied. "Hold my hand.", I said quickly, before she could run off again.
So we went outside. I looked around and examined the wasteland around us. I saw broken parts of buildings and lots of broken glass. "Be careful of the broken glass.", I said. "OK", Maggie replied. I saw someone. "Maggie! Look over there. I see someone.", I said. "Help!", the stranger called to us. "Come on, Maggie.", I said. We ran to the stranger. "Are you hurt?", we asked. "No, My name is Ashley.", she said. "Our names are Maggie and Emily.", I said. "Come with us.", I said, "We can take you to a shelter." "OK.", she replied. So we went back to the shelter with Ashley. "How old are you girls?", she asked. "Magggie is 10 and I am 16.", I replied, "How old are you?" "I am 14.", Ashley answered
