???I have to get out of here! I have to get out of here!???
???Dude, Chill.??? A basset hound mix barked, ???Sit down and relax.???
???No Henry! I can???t!??? A cute Germen Shepherd mix snapped, ???We need to get out of here!???
???Koda, Koda, Koda.??? Henry shook his head, ???You know we can???t get out of here. We???re in the smallest cage possible, with like 3 other dogs, and covered in our own feces.???
???But Henry,??? Koda said, ???We???re getting sick, inbred, over bred, and my mom was killed because she couldn???t breed anymore.??? Her teeth bared as the owner walked by, he hit the cage and she yelped. ???I just wish someone would save us.???

Beep???Beeep???Beeeeeeeep. A hand hit the clock, and it shut off. ???Good Morning,??? A girl said to herself as she got out of bed. She looked into a mirror and jumped, ???I need a shower.??? And she walked off to take a shower.
About an hour later, she came walked down wooden steps and onto a wooden floor. ???Morning Mom,??? She said,
???Hi honey.??? Her mom said and set down a plate of French toast, bacon and apple juice.
???Yum,??? She dug into it, after she was done her mother handed her a backpack.
???Have fun at school Lilly.??? Mom said and Lilly set off.
Lilly looked like any other 12 year old girl, blondish brown hair shoulder-length, greenish brown eyes, average height and weight. She lived in the small town of Round Lake, Minnesota; near Iowa. She walks to school everyday and back.
As Lilly walked down her the street she turned and saw the creepy house with the large barn and barking. ???Creepy.??? She said, ???I wonder what???s back there.???
???Hi!??? Lilly jumped and turned around,
???Oh, hi Abby,??? She said and waved, ???Thanks for creeping up on me.???
???Your welcome,??? Abby said, ???What were you looking at????
???That creeping house with the barking and the barn,???
???Why????
???Because it looks familiar... oh well,??? Lilly said and they walked to school. Abby was as tall as Lilly, had the same blondish brown shoulder-length hair except had dark brown highlights on her bangs, blue eyes and freckles.

When they got to school, it seemed to drag on for ever; finally it was lunch time. Lilly and Abby sat outside eating hamburgers, French fries and chips. ???Lilly, did you hear there is a new student. His name is Jake, he is you height, has dark brown hair with a part that flops over his eyes; dark brown eyes.???
???Ohh,??? Lilly said, ???I hope th-???
???Hi,??? She turned her head and saw Jake, standing there; hands in his pockets.
???Hi,??? Lilly blushed, ???Wanna sit????
???Sure,??? Jake sat down next to her. ???So, names????
???Oh, I???m Lilly and this is my friend Abby. Oh, and this is Max.??? She said pointing at the girl walking towards them. Max had short curly brown hair, brown eyes, and tan skin. ???Hi Max.??? Abby said as she sat down.
???Don???t worry. I met Jake.??? Max said. Soon the bell rang and they went to class.

???Something or someone should save us.??? Koda said as she looked at the street that was barely in view.
???No one will.??? Henry said, ???Humans are careless and worthless. I don???t even know why they call us ???Man???s Best Friend???.???
???Someone will, I just know it.??? Koda muttered,
???Whatever.??? He said and curled up to sleep.

As Lilly, Abby, Max and Jake walked home, they all stopped at the Creepy house. ???Man that is one scary house.??? Jake said,
???I know,??? Lilly said, ???But something doesn???t seem right.???
???Who knows, maybe it???s just some run down house.??? Abby said.
???No,??? Max said, ???There are dogs back there.??? They all sighed and walked to Lilly???s house.
When they arrived at her mouse they all went upstairs to do there Social Studies problem letter
???Jake,??? Lilly said, ???What are you doing for your letter about????
???Abortion,??? He said, ???I think it is a cruel thing to kill unborn babies. What about you Max????
???Well, I was thinking about Wars.??? She said, ???What about Abby????
???I don???t know. Like pollution.??? Abby said and they all turned to Lilly. ???And you????
???Puppy Mills,??? Lilly said, ???I hate them!??? They all nodded and pulled out their laptops and typed away.
At about 4pm the door bell rang, Abby went home; then Max; then Jake; ???Bye Jake!??? Lilly called after him and shut the door; she took a deep breath and turned around. There in the doorway was her mother,
???So who???s Jake???? She asked,
???A new kid at school,??? Lilly said, ???He???s really nice.??? Her mother smiled and walked away to make supper.

???It???s cold tonight.??? Koda said snuggled up to Henry and the other puppies in their cage. ???I know,??? Henry said, his teeth chattering. They both sighed and covered the noses with their tails.

???Good night mom.??? Lilly said and walked upstairs to her room. She changed into sweats, and printed her letter. Getting her backpack together, she could ear the dogs barking. Sighing she curled into bed, turned off her light and went to sleep.
???Lilly!??? Her mother called, ???Get up! The power went out and you???re going to be late if you don???t hurry.??? Lilly shot up and scrambled to get dressed, brush her hair, eat, brush her teeth and ran out the door.
Lilly got into class right in time. ???Good Morning Lilly.??? Her teacher said,
???Morning Mr. Mace,??? She said and sat down next to Jake.
???Where were you late???? Jake asked her,
???Power went out.??? She said and raised her hand.
???Yes Lilly.??? Mr. Mace said,
???Can I read my letter first???? She asked holding it tightly.
???Sure, come on up.??? Lilly smiled and walked to the podium. ???Who is it too? And what is it about????
???Governor Pawlenty, and it is about Puppy Mills.??? Lilly said and cleared her throat. As she read her letter, many people leaned in listening very closely. ???And that is why we should shut down Puppy Mills. Yours Truly, Lilly,??? She said as she finished, then the class clapped.
???Wonderful!??? Mr. Mace clapped, ???A+.???
???Thank you,??? Lilly said and sat down.

After School ended, the group walked back to Lilly???s house. ???Hey Sammy,??? Abby said as another girl joined them. Sammy was Lilly???s height, weight, and light blonde hair always in a pony, and had blue eyes.
???Hey guys,??? She said and walked with them.
???Hold on.??? Lilly said putting a hand out and looked at the Creepy House. ???Guys,??? She faced them, ???That???s a puppy mill.???
???What!??? Jake said, ???What can we do????
???We need a plan.??? Lilly said, ???Okay, everyone go get notebooks, overnight stuff and anything else. It???s a weekend; we need to shut this puppy mill down.??? They all nodded and everyone went off.

???Henry!??? Koda barked, ???Henry! I think that girl that always stops and looks at the house is coming to save us!???
???No she???s not.??? Henry said, ???No human is going to save us.???
???Just believe me!??? Koda said and sat down hoping for the girl to save her.

That night they all sat in Lilly???s room in there Pajamas. ???Alright Jake ,??? She said, ???Your first. What should we do????
???I think that tomorrow we should wait till the owner leaves and go explore it.???
???I think that is a good idea.??? Max said, ???But what are we going to do after we explore it????
???Maybe we should count the dogs that need help, and buy dog food, beds, blankets, shampoo and other stuff.??? Lilly said,
???We could take one dog a day, clean it up and give it too the shelter.??? Sammy said,
???Yeah,??? Abby said, ???How much money does everyone have????
???I have about 400 dollars.??? Lilly said, ???And I am sure my mom will give me some.???
???I have about 100 dollars.??? Abbey said,
???I have about 200 dollars.??? Sammy added.
???And I have about 4,000 dollars.??? Jake said, everyone gasped. ???Yes I know a lot. But my parents are rich.???
???Okay,??? Lilly muttered, ???Let???s, get some sleep and get up early tomorrow.??? The other???s nodded and the got into their sleeping bags and shut of the lights.

Chapter 2
Early the next day, the group snuck out of the house. ???Okay guys,??? Lilly said, ???We got 3 hours before the owner come back.???
???We???ll take one dog today right???? Abbey asked,
???Yep,??? Max answered, ???Then we will go to town.???
???Ready???? Sammy asked as they came to the back of the house. They nodded as they turned the corner. Lilly gasped and dropped to her knees.
???Who could do something like this???? Lilly cried, she wiped the hot tears away and walked over to the barn and stepped back from the door.
???What???s wrong???? Jake asked her as he stepped next to her and plugged his nose. ???Gross!??? He said. Sammy, Max and Abbey followed them and held their noses.
???In Puppy Mills, the dogs are covered in their own feces.??? Lilly said as she stepped in.

???Henry!??? Koda barked happily, ???That girl and some of her friends are here!???
???I don???t care.??? Henry said, ???They won???t take any of us anyways.???
???Yes they will!??? Koda said and barked for them.

???That one,??? Lilly said as she walked to the first cage where Henry and Koda were. She tried to open it but it wouldn???t budge. ???Jake,??? She said as he walked over and clipped the chicken wire. ???Thanks.??? She reached in and took the dark brown shepherd pup. ???Good girl.??? Lilly said and handed her to Abbey.
An hour later, they were each holding two puppies; that???s ten puppies. ???I thought we were only getting one.??? Abbey said holding two lab Chihuahua mix pups.
???I-I just couldn???t take just one.??? Lilly said, holding Koda and Henry.
???I told you she would save us!??? Koda barked at Henry.
???I???m sorry, you were right and I was wrong.??? Henry said and closed his eyes. ???It???s nice not being in that cage.???
???Come on, let???s get these guys baths and food.??? Max said, ???I came fell this one???s ribs. The only covering the skin is feces and little fur.??? Lilly nodded and they walked to town.
???Guys have names for your pups???? Jake asked the group, ???Alex for the male and Jade for the female. They are both siblings, Great Dane Pit Bull mix.???
???Cute!??? Sammy said, ???Jackie for the female and Ellen for the other female. Jackie is a Samoyed Terrier Mix. And Ellen is a mutt.???
???Nice names.??? Abbey said, ?????nna and Ben. Both Lab Chihuahua mix,???
???All are nice.??? Max said, ???Male black lab named Kapu, and white male German shepherd named Hons.???
???I like them all!??? Lilly said shifting her pups in her arms. ???Female German shepherd mix named Koda, and male basset hound mix name Henry.??? As they came to town they set them down on the sidewalk. The pups froze as soon as their paws touched the concert.

As the sun appeared over the golden brown grass, its rays hugged the earth in a warm hug. The birds called back and flew into the large barn that cast a long shadow over the black and white cows that hungrily chewed on the bright green grass, like a lawn mower cutting the grass.
A screen door slamming broke the silence of the morning. The leather boots of the farmer made a rhythm on the gravel trail to the barn. Following behind him, a handsome old bloodhound trotted along. The farmer was heading towards the bright red barn, where the clucking of the chickens can be heard. Inside the barn, a sleek tom cat darted into the hay bale.
Nestled deep within the warm straw, a young female was cured into a ball, her belly large. The she-cat was so still that the only way to tell she was alive was the soft rising the lowering of her chest. Her fur was long and looked silky; the pelt was a beautiful ash grey.
The rustle of the hay made her head snap up, her ears alert and her bright green eyes shone, ready to run at any second. But the movement was caused by her mate. His laws were overflowing with fresh prey. He dropped the prey next to her paws and lied down next to her, tucking his paws under his chest.
???Good job hunting.??? She mewed taking a plump mouse and started to eat.
???Thank you.??? The tom replied as he sat up. He licked his paw and swiped it over his face.
???Ashton, guess what????
???What????
???The kits will be due any day now!??? She exclaimed happily.
???That???s great Ashleigh!??? Ashton mewed and licked her ears. Smiling at each other, they waited until the farmer left with the eggs like he did every morning.
???Do you think the farmer left???? Ashleigh asked, as she cowered behind her mate, their pelts mixing into one grey cat.
???I think so. Let me go check.??? Ashton mewed with confidence, and stalked into the straw.
???Be careful!??? She called behind him, as he disappeared. It was quiet, but then she heard a yowl. Terrified, she ran out and found her mate fighting with the hound.
With her fur raised she hissed and joined in the fight. Jumping into the back of the dog, she bit into the scruff of the dog. The dog howled in pain and shook her off sending her flying into the wall of the barn. Ashleigh landed with a thud and started to get up when the mutt leaped at Ashton and tossed him twice as hard against the wall. With a success of defeating the intruders the dog walked to the opening of the barn. ???Take care little kitty, and never ever come back.??? It growled and walked away.
The limp body of Ashton lies next to her, not breathing. Ashleigh poked and probed the side of her mate but he wouldn???t stir.
???No, no, no.??? She muttered and licked the face of the tom. ???Wake up, wake up! The kits need you! I need you.??? But she knew he was dead, he joined his ancestors in the sky.
Knowing the dog would come back, Ashleigh took off running; her tail streaming behind her, along with her fur. She didn???t know where she was going, she didnt know if there would be any prey where she stopped, and she doesnt know if she could support the kits when they arrive.

As the sun started to set, and the animals retreated back to their families, Ashleigh curled up for the night in an old broken down shed. The hoots of the owls, and the cry of the coyotes in the distance frightened her deeper into the shadows.
Throughout her sleep, she recalled the horrible accident that had killed Ashton, but instead of running, the farmer had come back for her. As the farmer reached his hand down to seize her, she awoke. Breathing heavily, she got up and launched into hunting.
As the morning approached, Ashleigh???s belly was full as well as she was well rested. With a stretch, she started off. Seeing that the sun was slowly rising in the sky, Ashleigh was forthcoming a busy path. The whoosh of the cars, made the fur on her body be tangled in knots. ???Now what do I do???? She asked herself as she cowered in the bushes. Thinking to herself, she saw a group of cats cross when there were no cars on top of the road. ???Uh, that might work.??? Ashleigh crawled up towards the highway and glanced both ways. No vehicles. Smiling, she dashed across. Breathing heavily, she finished to the other side. ???That was good.??? Panting she continued on her voyage.
As the sun started to set, Ashleigh parked herself on top of a hill, studying it as it lowered into the land. She turned around and hiked down the hill into a log for a den. In the interior, sat a layer of prairie grass as a nest. Ashleigh curled up, wrapped her fluffy tail over her nose and fell into a shallow sleep. That night, her stomach woke her many times during the night; she wasn???t hungry, it was that the kits liked to push their paws everywhere.
Upon the earth???s awaking, Ashleigh was emerging from a bush with a rabbit in her maw. The earth was blowing gusts upon gusts of air, the trees bent in every direction and the coat on her body was sleeked back, making her look very skinny. Her whiskers were plastered against her face. She jogged into her burrow. Shaking her pelt as she tread in, ???Stupid wind.??? Ashleigh devoured her rabbit. Licking her chops, she returned into the wild.
The wind was so strong; Ashleigh could only walk a little ways. The clouds began to turn a dark grey. ???I have to stop for the night.??? Ashleigh said to herself, but when the clouds started let go of the rain, first a drizzle then to a slow pace rain. Franticly, she looked around for a place to stay. To her left she saw a small burrow the rock wall. Ashleigh squeezed in, and shook her pelt.
???Watch it!??? A voice called out in the dark. Widening her eyes, she saw a small fox. Its fur was a blazing orange, with her feathery tail.
???Sorry,??? Ashleigh apologized, ???I didn???t know you were here.???
???It???s okay. Name???s India.??? She barked, as she walked over.
???Nice to meet you. My name is Ashleigh. What are you doing here???? Ashleigh tipped her head to one side.
???Well Ashleigh, my leash and I were separated during the hunting season. When it started to rain, I came here. What about you????
???I lived in a barn a long ways away. I lived with my mate, but one day, he was killed by the farmer???s canine. I started to run, but I have been having trouble, since I am due with a litter of kits.???
???Wow,??? India paused, ???Your story is worse than mine. Where are you off to next????
???I don???t know. I hope some where safe.??? Ashleigh mewed, looking at her paws. ???What about you? Do you have any plans????
???No, I was wondering if I could come with you.??? Like Ashleigh, India looked at her paws, kneading them in the dirt.
???Of cobroccoli is sooo cool you can come with me! I would love the company.??? She said excitedly.
???Great!??? Then there was a low rumble, ???Sorry, I???m a little hungry.???
???I???ll go get us some prey, if you go find us some dry bedding.???
???Okay! Meet you back here!??? Then they set off, at their separate tasks.
When they both got back, the fur on both their bodies was plastered against them. Shaking their bodies, both their pelts stood up making them look huge. Laughing at each other, Ashleigh and India made beds and ate a great feast.
The soft rhythm of the rain, made Ashleigh set off into a nice deep sleep.

As soon as Ashleigh and India awoke from one of the best nights, it was still raining, but this time there were the brothers of Lightning and Thunder.
???Great it???s raining still.??? India complained,
???I know! Maybe we should stock up on some stuff, and stay here for a while. I mean, I slept splendid last night.??? Ashleigh said as she arched her back.
???Me too. How about I go get some soft bedding and you can go get the prey? You???re superior at hunting, me not so much.???
???Okay. Anyways, I like to hunt. Plus you make magnificent beds. They where springy last night.???
???Thanks, let???s go!??? Once again, they sprinted off to do their errands.

Throughout the morning, and in the early afternoon, the rain didn???t let up, it got worse. The thunder was twice as loud and the lightning caused everything or everyone to run for their life. Ashleigh and India stayed inside, ate a wonderful meal, and were warm and dry.
???What a boring day.??? India complained as she stretched, reaching her paws to the opposite wall.
???I know, but at least if it is nice tomorrow, we can leave right away. Plus we won???t have to hunt and waste energy.??? Ashleigh said back as she kneaded her bed. ???We???ll get a lot of rest and can move fast. It might be a little wet but that will keep us cool.???
???I need to stay positive.??? She thought to herself;
???Okay. Well, we should go to sleep earlier.??? Both girls nodded and hid under the grass and drifted off. Ashleigh learned that India snores softly while she sleeps. It???s more of a deep breath and a loud exhale.

???Good morning sleepy head.??? India blinked gradually as she saw a blurry Ashleigh gazing down upon her.
???Go away.??? She turned her head away, and groaned.
???No, get up!??? Ashleigh shook her pelt and the dew got India sopping wet.
???Fine!??? As she got up, her nose showed her a banquet of rabbit and mice. ???Wow, you were busy this morning!???
???No problem. Hurry up. It???s very nice outside.??? Ashleigh mewed as she bonded outside.
???Okay.??? India wolfed down her meal and followed her friend outside. ???It is nice!??? The green rolling hills went as far the eye could see, and the grass swayed in the soft spring breeze.
Smiling, the girls strolled off. ???When are the kits due???? India asked,
???I???m not sure, but I know very soon.??? Ashleigh said looking at her. ???I hope not to soon.???
???I can help you raise the kits.???
???That would be very kind of you.??? A silence arose from them,
???We???re boring.??? India said suddenly,
???I know but-???Then she stopped unexpectedly when the two came to a dark forest.
???Uh oh.??? India barked, ???Now what do we do????
???Keep going. I can see the other side from here. Just run and I will meet you at the other end.???
???Okay, 1??? 2??? 3!??? They both set off.
The forest was very thick and dark, Ashleigh had to keep alert and doge trees or jump over rocks or fallen trees. When she burst through the thick woods, Ashleigh came to a nice flowering prairie. As she slowly walked forward, in awe by the beauty, India ran into her.
???Ouch,??? India muttered and shook her head, ???Oh my gosh. This is beautiful!???
???I know. Let???s keep going.??? Ashleigh said quietly, as they slowly padded in the prairie. At the half way point, she felt a sharp pain in her side, and her pelt rippled.
???India,???
???Yeah,???
???The kits are coming!???

Something was wet, a little too wet for me. I began to squirm uncomfortably. What was it? My nose wrinkled up as I sniffed the air, I knew for sure that it was me! ???Mom!??? I said kicking my feet so that I could spin myself around to look at the camera, after kicking for five minutes I looked into the camera. ???Hello out there,??? I snorted, ???Mom!??? I screamed then took a deep breath and added for good measure, ???WAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!??? I could hear her running, I giggled to myself. Thankful that no one else could hear, in the middle of my giggle spree my door flew open and there stood, green mask and all.
My mom.
She walked over to me and picked me up out of my crib, ???Oh baby,??? She whispered patting my back.
???Uh, hello. Wet diaper here.??? I replied tilting my head back to look up at her, but she wasn???t looking at me. Blinking I threw my head on her chest and did my best to squirm but when one is being held in a tight grip one cannot squirm to well. As her arms loosened their lock on me I began to squirm furiously, she held me back and her brown eyes looked into mine. I frowned and she sniffed the air,
???Baby, you stink!???
???No really, I didn???t notice since I was sleeping in it half the night.??? Mom laid me down on a hard plastic floor. As my bald head, a shiver went down my spine. After being in a warm bed and having your clothes being taken off, it???s cold! ???Wahhh!??? I let out a good measure of whining and she hurried up. My stinky wet diaper was taken off and a warm fresh diaper was put on, mom picked me up to that I wouldn???t be so cold but because of the big whine I had stinky spit-up running out of the mouth and down my chin, some getting on mom.
???Thanks baby.??? Mom replied as she wiped off some of the spit-up on her. I giggled and looked around the room; a large grey creature stalked into the room.
???Go away or I???ll pop you!??? I snapped, the creature looked at me and walked off. ???That???s right, you better run pal!???
During this time, my mother had changed me into new clothes. She lifted me up with a sigh and walked me out of my warm room.
???Micah, Micah Micah. Some times you are such a handful.??? She scolded me lightly. I ignored her for I heard someone else shuffling through the house, when I turned my head I saw my daddy walking towards us. His walk seemed slow, but he was dresses and ready???to play with me that is! But instead of picking me up and playing with me he learned over and hugged my mom, ???Goodbye.???
???Have a nice day at work.??? I stared at them, ???What!??? I thought, ???Aren???t I enough work? Why do you need to go to some big place to work???? I questioned out loud.
I, rightfully, expected a full answer from my Daddy but he pulled on his shoes and coat and pulled open the door, with a final wave he walked out into the snow. When the door closed I cried. ???Daddy, come back, now! I did not get an answer from you yet!???
Mommy groaned tiredly, ???Micah, what???s wrong???? She asked shoving my pacifier into my open mouth.
I closed my mouth around it, but I tired to cry though it. She laughed and lowered my eyebrows, ???What???s so funny???? I said though the pacifier. She laughed again. With a final word (which shall not be repeated) I fell silent, I thought up of stupid things she had done as medicine to nurse my hurt pride.

I looked up at my ???friends??? from my spot in my crib. ???You all are boring!??? I told them then glared at the frog, ???Especially you.??? In reply the thing just looked at me with big white eyes, I snorted and turned my head to look at my people. ???Do something other then moving in a circle, alright???? I told it as the rainforest song ended.
When nothing changed I opened my mouth and wailed, in a matter of seconds Mommy walked into the room. Her green mask was gone and her teeth were brushed and free of morning breather so I didn???t mind her leaning over me and talking to me really loudly. But I did mind how she changed the song to Mozart, if she had been paying attention she would know that I absolutely hate Mozart! I prefer Beethoven.
So when the dumb Mozart started to play I screamed, Mommy quickly turned off the music and picked me up saying something under her breath. I continued crying, she was not about to put me back down again! It was the middle of the afternoon.
???Micah, are you hungry? I have some nanners!???
Flaring my arms up into the air, Mommy yelled something and, what seemed like hours, my sissy came with a bottle.
???Why does she have my bottle? I???m the hungry one!??? I shouted, then mommy shoved the bottle into my mouth. The warm milk flowed into my mouth and down my throat. I smiled and sucked hard getting more milk.
???Yum!??? I thought to myself, and kicked my feet once.
Once I was finished with my bottle, Sissy tapped me on the back a couple times until a big burp came out. They all laughed. ???What???s so funny???? I said frowning. With that I placed back into my crib. ???I want to play. Get daddy.??? Again no one answered me; I was left alone with only my animal pals. ???Why am I always left alone with you guys???? I whispered angrily. The frog just looked at me; the wide white eyes just stared, without blinking. I leaned forward to look right into them. Raising a small fist I hit the fur and looked away at the people above me. Watching them made me fall asleep.
During my sleep, I had a dream. I loved it. I was REALLY big and I could do what ever I wanted and I didn???t have to worry about Mommy coming in all the time to get me something.
I awoke to a very bright flash that got me. Screaming, I could hear one of my parent???s feet running to get me. Luckily it was Daddy. He gently picked me up, and I leaned towards him taking in his warm scent???making sure that he is my daddy that is. Daddy rocked my slowly and walked me out of my room. A loud explosion type thing shook the house and I whimpered once. I was handed to my mommy in her bed; daddy climbed in the bed and I was snuggled in-between them. A warm aroma came from both of them, a sign of protection.

The Ghost within the Walls

I am the ghost within the walls; I have lived in this house for countless years. And for most of that time I had lived alone. No friends, no company, no future, just marking a path of my own, all alone, wondering if anyone would accompany me.
But, when he came, so full of fear that it seemed fake, I failed to see his ways. To see the true spirit within young Seth that threatened my very existence.
For countless years Seth accompanied me on every path I set and retraced. The look in his eyes as they flickered uneasily about made me nervous. But, still, Seth was a friend and I was stuck with him for eternity. This old house in the middle of nowhere was more likely to rot than sell.
Long ago, the realtor had died. No one had bothered to change the old sign, so now, staring out of a window, I hear it creak in the wind and I watch as more of the blue letters which had once spelt out ???Ray Donald???, fall to the ground among the tangle of weeds and plants.
A sigh escapes me as I hear him coming. He does not speak but lightly raps the wall with his knuckles. I do not want to answer, but, ever since he imprisoned me I must.
I fear the demon who lives under my skin and who watches my every move.

Chapter 1 the ghost

Staring out the window I watched the trees sway in the wind. The old for sale sign creaked and groaned as it swung back and forth. Sighing, I turned my back and slowly headed towards the door. The sound of tire on gravel caught my attention and I zoomed back and looked out. Seth floated in the room and pushed me aside to see. A frown washed over his face, as a tan car stopped in front of the house. I smiled and clapped my hands together, but it didn???t make any sound. He whipped around and glared at me. I cowered back and decided to investigate.
Out of the large bay window in the main floor, I sat on the bench and watched a man and a young woman climb out of the car and slowly approach the house, climbing over weeds and vines. The woman was clearly not my age, and she was dressed oddly, like a boy. Looking down at myself, I saw, like always, my red and white checkered dress down past my knees and a white apron with lace. I looked normal, her not so much. She was wearing a white colored shirt with no sleeves, just string and some type of pants that I had never seen. Her hair was odd looking too. It was not braided but hung straight and had the colors of eggplant and watermelon intertwined with strands. Tilting my head to the side, I watched them with eager eyes as they unlocked the door and stepped in. As the door opened, Seth glided down the stairs, to ???meet??? the visitors. I stood up and walked over to them. I think they liked the house, because they went everywhere. The girl, whose name I learned, was Kaala. I followed her around the house, like a puppy dog. She started in the kitchen and then the dining room and was amazed by the large cobwebbed chandelier that hung in the center. Slowly she made it into the main living room and the library; she was in awe of the large collection of books that lined the walls. This was my favorite room, when I was alive. I used to spend hours and hours reading and rereading the books. My parents urged me to play outside, but I only left that room to sleep, or go to outhouse and the school. Seth growled at us and disappeared, not wanting any of this. Returning to the foyer, she climbed the stairs. On the second floor, she went to the two bedrooms and the newly installed room that looked like an indoor outhouse. Down the long hallway, one door remained closed at the end. Kaala walked towards it. ???No! Do not go there!??? I called; she Report me I am Spamminged her head but shrugged it off. I grabbed her shirt and pulled but I was not quick enough. She turned the knob; I covered my face as she opened the door and heard her gasp and she yelled for her father.
The large man came running, the breeze whipping me around in circles. ???What???? He asked her, holding her arm. She pointed into the room, I stole a glance. I was forbidden to ever enter this room or he would get very angry with me. A fireplace was boarded up and in a cherry colored paint was a weird star like thing in the center. Wilted flowers lay on the ground next to a circle of candles. This was where Seth was summoned and that was the day I hated.
A group of people broke into this house. They were wearing the color of the midnight sky. During a storm they chanted as the lightning flashed and thunder crackled. When Seth appeared they fled and now I???m stuck with him.
When the door shut, it broke my thoughts, and I blinked the image away and followed them downstairs.

Chapter 2 Kaala

What a weird house. I looked around and sniffed the air filled with dust and musty. I walked into the kitchen and looked down at the tile floor, lifting a foot; you could see my footprint in the half inch layer of dirt. It was a beautiful kitchen but it needs new appliances. The wood stove sat in a corner next to a pump and a sink, and an ice box. A lot of new things, but we can???t get rid of the amazing chandler that hung in the dining room, above a large mahogany table with matching chairs. ???Angie and the kids will like it.??? My dad broke my evaluation as he entered the room. ???What do you think????
???Wow, that???s a first. Ever since you got married to that leech, you never ask me what I want. An improvement in progress;??? I crossed my arms over my chest and chuckled at the look on his face. ???I really do like it. But we never checked out the third floor or the basement.???
???Don???t worry. I looked at the basement and the third floor is all one room so, I was thinking that it could be your room.??? He smiled a crooked smile, as he saw my eyes light up.
???Really!??? A jumped up and ran up the flight of stairs to the second floor and walked over to the stairs hidden by a door. Slowly, I made it up the steep steps, and entered the space. ???Wow,??? My eyes glazed across the wooden room. The walls and floor were made of wood which I thought was great, a large window was actually a door to a balcony and another window faced the front of the house. There was no closet but I???m sure he???ll build me one; one that is deep and wonderful, full of new clothes and shoes. I can imagine it already, unless the witch decides that I don???t deserve such treasure.
???You like it???? The voice made me jump as I turned to my dad leaning against the wall. For a dad, he wasn???t bad looking. He was strong with lots of muscle, a flawless face and hair of wheat framing his face. Surprisingly he was married a woman that looked like she went under a thousand surgeries and did not look good at all.
???I love it!??? I ran up to him and hugged his belly and smiled, ???Are you going to build me a closet????
???Of course, when we renovate the house, it will be placed in. Don???t worry.??? He took a deep breath in and continued, ???Honey, are you upset about Angie???? I looked up at him shocked.
???Me? Upset? No,??? He saw right through my lie, ???Okay, a little, because when she moves in, I won???t be your little girl anymore. You???ll have the other kids to play with and spoil. I???ll just turn out to be the rotten teenager like Angie says I am.??? I let go of him and walked away, rubbing my arms. ???You won???t be my dad anymore, you???ll be their dad and I???ll miss you. We won???t have anymore fun because you have to take care of her and the gang. Plus with more little babies around the house, that will make me the all time babysitter.??? He chocked on his salvia.
???What!? Back this wagon up, more kids? Where did you get that idea????
???Angie. She told me that on her honeymoon, that will be the first kid, then after that one is born she wants sextuplets.??? I smiled and walked away, leaving him drowning in my words.
???Oh great,??? I heard him mutter,
???Make an offer on the house!??? I called back and continued down the stairs.

Chapter 3
The move in
A week later, we packed up the little things that we had from our apartment and went to the new house. The beds in the apartment had to stay there so, Angie promised to buy us all new beds, and a real soft one for her and dad. While we were moving in, we had people come and redid the roof, and install a bathroom, laundry room and electricity along with Television and internet.
We meet Angie and her FIVE children at the house, they had two large moving trunks with them with all of there stuff. I felt poor, because dad and I only had our small flat bed truck full of boxes. My dad walked up and kissed Angie and hugged the kids, I hung back and started carrying things up to my room.
When I came into my room, my bed was set up already. I groaned and set the box down. Grabbing a hold of the frame, I pushed in around so, the head was against the wall and the end was facing the stairway. ???There,??? I grunted with a huff as I wiped my hands on my shirt. ???Just right,??? The knocking of the workers was quite annoying as I opened up all my boxes of belongings.
???Kaala!??? A call came from downstairs,
???Yes????
???You need to be out of the room, while they work on your closet.??? I smiled and dropped what I was doing and walked down to the second floor. As I exited, four workmen stomped up the stairs, dragging dirt and crud with them.
???Clean up after you???re done.??? I howled to them, as they disappeared, all I heard was ugh and moans.
Stepping out into the hall, the loudness and excited voices buzzed and bit at my ears. If you stood in the middle, you would be able to tell, what side the girls??? rooms were on and the side the boys??? rooms were on. Ballet music and Hannah Montana flowed down to mix with rap and the sound effects from video games coming from the boys??? room. I guess Angie put the girls on the side that my hidden room was. At the far end of the hall, my dad and Angie were arguing about something. Walking down, I pounded on the door with my fists. ???I can hear you!??? and it fell silent,
???Kaala, please come in.??? My dad called and I opened the door. The pale room that it used to be was now a baby blue. Angie stood next to the wall, holding a paint brush in one hand and a rag in the other. Her usual rich clothes were now sweats that were covered in pant and her hair back in a messy bun.
???What are you fighting about now???? I asked crossing my arms over my chest,
???Nothing.??? My dad said flatly glaring at me and stormed out of the room and away.
???Did you tell him???? Angie yelled at me after my dad was out of hearing range.
???Not exactly,??? I muttered rolling my eyes.
???You selfish inconsiderate?????? She paused at a swear word,
???I had to tell him! He was going to find out anyways! I mean look at you. You???re very large, and you don???t eat so yeah.??? I shrugged and walked out, slamming down the door behind me. With the music blasting I pounded on the door of the closet room. The door opened and standing there wearing only tights and a leotard. ???Whoa, what are you wearing???? Covering my eyes with the back of my hands,
???For your information I???m practicing for ballet and I don???t need your sass.???
???My sass? Kaylee I don???t need your attitude. Anyways, turn it down or turn it off. I live upstairs and I don???t need to hear, lada dee ladda da lada dee.??? I sang and walked away, hearing her slam the door. The next door down, the Hannah Montana music blared out, knocking, the door opened and standing there in a Hannah Montana shirt and jeans. ???Hey Alexis, can you please turn down your music????
???No.??? She said straight forward, ???I???m trying to organize my room. So, go away.???
???Sorry Alexis, but it needs to be turned down.??? I pushed her aside and twisted the volume knob on her stereo.
???NO!??? She screamed and slapped my arm; I shrugged and walked out of her room closing the door behind me.
Trudging down the stairs, I could hear my dad on his cell phone. Tiptoeing up to the kitchen doorway, his conversation shocked me. He was talking with my grandmother about the little baby or ???problem??? as he put it. Even from five feet away I would hear her yelling. Not wanting to get caught, I slipped away and headed for the front door. Opening the heavy door was not easy but it was cool. When I stepped out on the wooden steps and closed the door behind me, the sharp air caught me off guard. Luckily the workers already cut and trimmed the grass and bushes. Golden orange leaves blew across the yard like tornadoes. The long driveway was no sprinkled with the leaves. The ancient oaks towered and reached for the sky with their limbs covered in a wash of oranges and reds. Smiling, I walked around the house and into the back. Although this is a big house, and with all the windows, the ones facing the back were boarded up, so this is the first time to see the backyard. When I turned the corner, I stopped dead in awe. A shining lake blinded me, the soft waves licked at the sandy shore. Sitting on the shore, a rotting dock stretched out into the water, I???m sure my dad can fix it up. Running back inside the house, I threw on my swimsuit and wadded into the shallows. Surprisingly it was quite warm and clear, no weeds. Pulling down my goggles I dove under to get a good look.

Chapter 4 The ghost
I haven???t seen Seth for hours, probably because I was bust examining all the rooms. The colors, toys and books were very different. Floating out of the ???bathroom???, I think that???s what they called it, a scream echoed through the house, running to a window, I saw Kaala running. What she was wearing caught my eye. I don???t know what it was but man I was showing a lot of skin.
Hearing the slam of the door and frantic breathing I went downstairs. Her father had a hard clamp on her upper arms, his hands holding her still. Pressing against the wall I listened.
???What happened???? Her dad asked,
???I???I was swimming in the lake.???
???What lake????
???The one out??? outback. I wasn???t very deep, I came to a drop off and wanted to see what was at the bottom, so I swam to the surface and took a deep breath and dove under. I stopped to see if the cliff wall was smooth or covered with muscles. When I turned around??????
???What????
???This face was staring at me. It wasn???t a human face. I was white, no eyes just black holes. It was wearing a black cloak.???
???Okay, it???s okay.??? Her father held her close and I wanted to cry.
???What???s she crying about???? A lady walked over separating them so she could hug Kaala???s dad.
???She saw something in the lake; I???m going to go check the lake out.??? He unhooked her arms and walked away. The first thing that came to my mind was Seth.
???Saw something in the lake? Are you under something???? Kaala glared at her, her eyes filled with tears. She shook her head and ran upstairs crying. Lady snickered and skipped away happily. I wrinkled my nose and went to find Kaala.
Upon entering her room, Kaala was pulling on a pair of pants, and talking under breath. I closed the door trying not to make a sound but it clicked shut. Her head snapped up and for a second I was positive she saw me. After seconds of silence she continued on and leaped on her bed, lifting a grey square from the floor. Curiosity tempted me over and I looked over her shoulder. She opened it like a door and was now an ???L??? shape. The bottom had keys like a type writer but was smaller; the top light up with strange colors. A small arrow flicked across the screen and a white piece of paper popped up and the words appeared fast. Looking down, I saw her fingers move, tapping the keys, she was typing.
When I was alive, I was a pro at typing. My father installed on in the library, and I would sit and type school work or announcements when we would have parties or meetings. My teachers and other mothers disagreed about the stories that would flow from my fingers onto the paper.
As Kaala left and was standing by a shelf, I typed in a simple phrase, ???Hello, How are you.??? The small clicking of the keys made her run over and she read and reread my message. ???Okay I did not write this.??? She whispered, ???Huh,??? Kaala typed another message, ???A little scared, who is this????
???Do not be afraid, I lived in this house a long time ago.???
???So you???re like a ghost.???
???You can say that.???
???Were you at the lake????
???No.???
???Is there more of you????
???Yes, it was Him.???
???Who is him????
???Cannot tell you, he is coming.??? Seth floated in and frowned, Kaala???s eyebrows creased as she read my message and I tried to run out of the room but Seth grabbed me and pinned me to the wall. ???Listen to me you child, I am in charge. If you ever, ever talk to any of these humans, or someone will get hurt.??? I fell to the floor as Seth dropped me and I fell through the floor. As I hovered back into the room, Kaala called for me.
???Are you still here???? My hands shaking I answered, ???Yes, I am still here.???
???Where did you go????
???Through the floor.???
???What is your name????
???Madelyn.???
???Cool.???
???You are Kaala.???
???How do you know????
???Your father calls you that.???
???What is your last name????
???Family name is Storm.???
???Storm. What is his name????
???He calls himself Seth.???
???Seth, how do you know him????
???He was summoned, by people in black.???
???Where???? I did not type back, I did not want Seth to find out, and shaking my head I drifted away.

Chapter 5
Who lived in this house before me?

With no answer from the ghost who calls herself, Madelyn, I walked over and connected the laptop with the printer and printed out the conversation. When I was out, I pulled on an Aeropostale sweatshirt and tromped down stairs, running down two at a time. My dad caught me right as I was heading for the door. ???Where do you think your going???? I squirmed out of his grip and smoothed out my jacket.
???To the town library.???
???Why????
???Because, I want to see who lived in this house before us.???
???No, I cannot allow you out of this house.???
???I???m just riding my bike. I won???t be gone long.??? I opened the door but he shut it again. ???Let me go!??? I ordered, whirling around to look at him.
???Kaala I cannot allow you to go into town while there is much to do in this house.???
???Like what? My room is done. I have nothing to do.???
???Go help the other kids.??? I crossed my arms, ???Angie might want help too.???
???No. I hate those brats. I am not helping them.??? I snapped back and glared at him.
???Now!??? He roared and treaded away heavily. I waited till he was out of hearing range and silently opened the door and slipped out. Unlocking my bike, I hopped on and rode down the driveway.
As I walked my bike over the top of the hill, I stopped to gaze at the small town. People walked along the many family owned shops, peering into the windows. A woman sat on a bench with her baby on her lap, the baby gumming on a toy, a toddler ran up to people who walked by waved and I think said hi and ran away giggling. The mother scolded her but the passing couple shook their head and began a conversation with the tiny family. Sighing, I began to walk down the hill, but was stopped by a small group of girls that stood in front of me. ???Can I help you???? I asked them holding the brake,
???You???re new, right???? The leader asked flipping her hair,
???My dad and I moved here with his wife and kids.??? I answered.
???Where are you going to school???? Someone asked in the back,
???The local middle school, and if you don???t mind I need to get going.??? I continued walking but again was stopped,
???What house did you move in????
???I don???t know, I was going to go figure that out.???
???Whatever see you at school.??? They all flipped their hair and strolled away. Rolling my eyes I go on with my task. The library sat in the middle of town, actually it was in the Town Hall.
I leaned my bike against the wall and hiked up the large marble steps and pulled open the large wooden door and stepped in. My eyes slowly adjusted to the darkness, and I walked over to the door labeled ???Muddy Waters Library???. The room was very large, the carpet was worn, the colors fading. The walls were lined with tall bookshelves, and tables sat, in the middle some with computers. The soft thudding of books being shelved mixed with the soft tick of the clocks. I walked over to the large librarian desk, and smiled. ???Can I help you young lady????
???Yes, do you have any documents of the history of the houses in this town????
???Sure, what house are you thinking about????
???The old house on Willow drive????
???That???s the oldest house here.???
???Cool,??? I took the folder from her and walked over to a table and sat down. I placed my messenger bag on the table and pulled out a notepad, pencil and the conversation with Madelyn. Slowly I opened the folder, and pulled out the stack of yellowed papers. A black and white picture of the house sat on the top page, the floor plan on the bottom. I scattered the pages and looked at the history. Smiling I read on:
The House on Willow drive was built in the late 1800???s. A rich man by the name of William Storm bought the land for his future wife Mary Gate. The cost to build the house was estimated to 3000 $. During the construction of the home, Mary gave birth to her first child, a girl which they named Madelyn. William Storm owned most of the town and businesses while his wife worked in the fabric shop, where she sold many designs and colorful yawn. Madelyn was not usually seen outside. The young girl sat inside reading or making up ridiculous stories.
I flipped to the next page, which read:
Madelyn Storm, funeral September 23rd 1864
Madelyn Storm, the daughter of William and Mary Storm, has died to unknown reasons. Mr. Storm has announced that the funeral will be private and simple, for Mrs. Storm does not want to have to much grieve. Madelyn died at the age of 9.
Pictures of Madelyn littered the page, although it was not in color, I could tell the most of her features. Her hair was pulled back in two loose braids, bangs swept on her forehead; her eyes were round and looked soft, for the lightness that they were, they must have been a blue color. Her dress when down to her ankles and a white apron covered the front. ???She???s so cute.??? I muttered and read the next page.
On the account of the death of their daughter, Mr. and Mrs. William Storm decided to sell the house and move away from Muddy Waters. Unfortunately, the house did not sell, and the bank boarded it up and left it to rot. No one knows the whereabouts of the couple today.
I shook my head and continued to read, but before I could continue my phone vibrated. ???Hello???? I whispered,
???Where the heck are you Kaala????
???At the library,???
???I told you that you could not go. Come home right now.???
???I???m a little busy.???
???No right now. If you don???t you will be grounded and I will take your laptop away.??? Click. My dad hung up and I stood up and went to return the papers.
???Excuse me, but can I borrow this???? I asked the librarian.
???Sure, do you have a card????
???No, I just moved here.???
???Well welcome to Muddy Waters.??? She smiled and handed me a tiny card, ???The first one is free. Come back soon.??? She waved and I walked out the door, clutching the folder in my hands, my bag slapping my legs as I rode home.

Chapter 6
The ghost

The friendship between Kaala and I began to grow after the conversation we had. It took what seemed like hours for Kaala to return from town. The bad energy in the house from her father was overpowering Seth. He paced in front of the large bay window, rubbing his chin. When I heard the door open, I raced down but I saw her father, the lady and Kaala yelling at each other. ???Kaala Marie Jackson, where have you been????
???I told you, at the library.??? Kaala began climbing the stairs but was blocked.
???That???s not what I heard.???
???Oh really what did you hear???? Her eyes glanced at the lady,
???That doesn???t matter. What does matter is what???s in your bag.??? She burst out into laughter.
???You think I???m on drugs? Dad, I just went to the library and got one book and came home.???
???Kaala,??? The lady said in a I???m-really-don???t-care-but-have-to-fake-it voice. ???I know seeing you dad happy and having a new mom and a new family and home may be hard for you but hurting yourself by doing drugs isn???t going to make all of this to disappear. I was also planning on naming the baby Ariel after your dead mother.???
???Okay, one I like seeing my dad happy; two you???ll never be a mom to me; three that ???family??? you mentioned are all stuck up brats; four I???m not doing drugs and five you do not have permission to name that stupid baby after my mom.??? Kaala???s voice slowly rose as she talked. Quickly the lady swiped Kaala???s bag and pulled out the contents. Everything except some papers fell to the floor.
???What is all this???? The lady asked,
???Well, the print out paper is a conversation I had with the ghost that lives in this house, and the older yellowed papers are things about this house.???
???Ghosts? See what your daughter is talking about!??? She screamed at Kaala???s father, and burst into fake tears and ran up the stairs. Turning to her father he just shook his head and walked away. Gathering up her stuff, she looked up and five heads looked down at her. Stomping up the stairs she slammed her door to her room, leaving me confused.
For the rest of the afternoon Kaala sat in her room the glow from her typewriter highlighted the tear trails on her cheeks. A soft knock made her look up, ???What???? her voice was horse, the door opened and light flooded the dark room. Walking up, her father smiled holding a paper bag. Blinking, Kaala shut her typewriter and gently took the bag. When she unfolded the top, a wonderful smell floated to my nose. Memories of the local bakery flashed in my mind and I licked my lips. ???Why????
???Why what???? Her father sat on her bed,
???Why did you marry her???? She said between bites.
???Because I love her, and I thought you would be happy.???
???Well you thought wrong! You thought she could replace mom!??? Kaala stood up and stood by the window.
???You know I miss her too but we have to move on Kaala. Angie can give me???I mean us a lot.???
???Oh sure,???
???And what was with the ghost stuff????
???That???s it! That???s why you came up here. Angie told you that she was ???worried??? about me. I am not lying! There was a little girl that used to live here that died in this house and a greater evil is holding her here.???
???Kaala honey, I think you???re doing this to get attention.???
???Get. Out. Now.??? Kaala said through clenched teeth and her father let.

Chapter 8 Jake Jackson
I shut Kaala???s door with a click. The argument reeled in my mind as I headed down the hall and down the stairs. On the first floor, my room sat between the stairs and the kitchen and dinning room. Taking a deep breath, I opened the door and smiled at Angie. ???So????
???So,??? I said peeling off my shirt and throwing on a flannel.
???How???d it go???? Angie sat on the bed brushing her gorgeous blond hair.
???Fine, she understood where I was coming from.??? I lied,
???Good,??? She walked over and wrapped her arms around me, her hair tickling my chin. ???Now let???s talk about the baby.???
???Um okay???Yaaawwnn.??? Slipping under the covers I leaned my head into my pillow. ???Kaala told me.???
???I know, aren???t you happy about this????
???Um, yeah I am but I don???t know what Kaala thinks about it.???
???Don???t worry about her. Worry about me, and the other kids.???
???I know I shouldn???t but she sounds serious about the ghosts.???
???Ugh, she???s just doing that to get your attention.???
???Yeah I know.??? I turned the clock, it glowed 10:48 P.M. ???They kids start school tomorrow and we have to be up very early.??? I clicked off the light and quickly slipped into a deep sleep.

Chapter 9 Kaala???s Dream
Drip???Drip???Drip??? I opened my eyes to look at the doorway of the kitchen. When did I get up? Rubbing my eyes, my hands as tan as they are, are now clear. I must be dreaming. Clanking of pots and pans got my attention and I peered into the kitchen. Standing next to the wood stove is a man smoking a pipe. His curly brown hair stuck out from under his hat. ???Madelyn!??? His deep voice echoed through out the house.
???Yes papa???? The delicate voice answered, a little girl skipped in, her dress a little too small for her. ???This little girl must be Madelyn and the man must William Storm.??? I thought, William looked down upon his daughter.
???Where have you been???? Madelyn trembled as she held up some papers.
???I wrote you a poem about the wonderful season of autumn.??? Snatching the papers, he read the poem. I expected him to smile and hug his daughter but instead he crumpled it up and slapped her right across the face. She fell to the floor, her eyes filled with fear.
???A poem? You should be doing other important things like sewing and cooking.??? William yelled, ???A girl like you should be outside doing the laundry not being in the house making up ridiculous poems and stories!??? At thought the conversation was over, Madelyn stood up and smoothed out her dress and her long braids. William whipped around and poured boiling out water on her. Screams echoed in the house, I looked away and saw Madelyn???s mother running towards me. Her boots clicking as she hiked up her dress and rushed past me. ???William! What have you done????
???This inconsiderate child is not worthy enough to be in my family. She mouthed off and she needed to be punished.??? His voice covered in venom.
???My child! My baby!??? Mary knelt next to her child, the life full happy eyes sat almost empty as her life was drained out of her.
???Mommy,??? Madelyn???s voice horse, ???I???m sorry I am a disappointment to you.??? Tears filled Mary???s eyes when she knew her daughter was dead and her killer was the man whom she loved. Sadness turned into anger as she gazed up as him, she stood up.
???How could you???? She picked up a pan and threw it at him. William grabbed her wrists and pulled her towards him.
???Say one word about this your reputation in this town will be destroyed.??? He hissed,
???I have nothing else to lose.??? She hissed back as she dropped to the floor. William scooped up her child. Seeing the scene of Mary weeping did not interest me; what did was what William did to Madelyn. Slipping out of the kitchen, I followed William out of the house and out by the lake. From the outside, the house and lawn were very different. The original color of the house was light brown, the shutters painted a darker brown. Instead of tall weeds and untrimmed grass, a garden sat in full blood, dark green grass surrounded it and the tall trees. Hooves on cobblestone, lowing of cows, cry of a rooster, bark of a farm dog, meow of a feral cat and the sound of laughter flooded and bit at my ears. This place was full of life; you would never think anything bad would happen. In my state of awe, I remembered what I was doing. Kneeling in the sandy shore, he began to cry, a fake cry that filled me with rage. A nosey neighbor ran over,
???What in God???s name happened????
???My little girl???she???she drowned playing in the lake. I???I told her not... not to go swimming until I was able to watch her but she didn???t listen.??? The neighbor patted him on the back and whispered something that made him nod. Watching him walk away I started to float, not wanting to leave I tried to grab a hold of something but nothing worked. With a single blink, the scene changed to a dark day. A light mist fell from the cloudy sky as a casket was lowered into the ground. ???I???m at Madelyn???s funeral.??? I thought looking around; signs told me that I was in Muddy Waters Cemetery. As quickly as I came the scene disappeared. An annoying beeping made me open my eyes. Now I stared at my ceiling.

Chapter 10
Kaala

The rest of the week was uneventful. I went to school, fought with Angie, talked with Madelyn, and go to sleep. But on Friday night, my dad and Angie decided to go out and all of the brats were over at sleepovers. I sat up in my room, typing an essay about the War of 1812 when I heard the faint sound of thunder. O great, I thought as I heard the pitter patter of rain attack the roof, like little darts. One crackle of lightning flickered the lights, once, twice and three times their out. Groaning, I looked around once and continued my work. Something moved behind me, and I whipped around, nothing; just the wall. Taking a deep breath, turned back around, and now my computer went out. ???Okay Madelyn, very funny, turn it back on.??? Nothing happened, ???Madelyn!??? I scolded looking around. Slowly, I glided off my bed walking across the wooden floor, I hesitated at the door, exhaling slowly I stepped out into the hall.
The hall was dark, the rooms vacate of people. The fuse box was in the kitchen, hidden behind the many cabinets.
