Once upon a time, in a realm far, far away from the rest of Marada, lived a thirty-fourth daughter of a Kalaa king and queen. And she was not the youngest. The youngest was a fifty-seventh son. As you can expect, many of these royal children in their parents court were overlooked and not given much attention. Deserving, though it was not yet her name, would not be able to pick her father or mother from a crowd if requested.

Deserving's life was merely populated by governesses and attendants, all whom she loved, and all who loved her. It was not an unhappy life.
