If you're just starting out, play a few games to save around 5-10K.
Then... This is what you can do.
Restock, restock, restock: Don't do it myself only because I don't have time. But, people who do generally are millionaires--especially if they're RSing computer parts, garage parts, chocolate, school supplies, etc. Generally, anything can make you money as long as you buy items that sell for more in usershops.
Quests, quests, quests: Santa is pretty good only if he's asking for plushies. Snowman is good if he's asking for an item less than 2K. Elger is really good as long as you get items cheaper than 3K. Farm is random, try items around 1 K since yarn doesn't sell for all that much. Don't do Candy quests. Chances of profiting are slim to none. Don't do Leprechaun unless you'd rather have RP. Don't do KK unless you have a high statted pet with a lot of cards and are willing to accept BP.
Missions:
You'll need to be dedicated to these if you want to make any kind of profit.
Trunx - Make sure you have most of the CDS prior to starting. The easier levels will ask for CDS that restock from the main shops. However, later levels (like in the 20+) will ask for CDs that were from account upgrades or CDs that are restockable but more expensive. Unless you are willing to spend a wad of mp prior to completing the mission, don't attempt.
Tarquin, very similar to Trunx in fact almost identical with one exception--books.
Ublish - Will ask for lots and lots of stars. Generally, star costs range from 1K-5K or generally more if the star is from say the pirate ship or the millionaires lodge. You shouldn't spend more than a million for this quest as the plain Huthiq potion isn't worth as much as a mil and is very difficult to sell as the pet is unpopular.
Trotter -- Similar to trunx and tarquin except requires DVDs that your pet has watched. DVDs are more expensive than books and CDs so make sure you're not spending more than a mil. A zoink potion is not as difficult to sell as a Huthiq potion.
Troll -- Only open during odd hours of mara. Requires instruments your pet has learned. Each time you complete troll, he will ask for instruments on a new level. Instruments can be very expensive, some are in the millionaires shop even. Be careful you're not spending too much--try to stick around a mil. Oglue potions are also a tough one to sell but there aren't many who sell them.
Blitzen - Do NOT attempt if you are inexperienced or new. This is one of the most advanced missions and also one of the most expensive. It'll ask for items of a higher rarity on each level, so just because level 1 asks for a cheap item with a level 1 rarity does not mean level 27 will ask for an item with a level 27 rarity that is also cheap. Common sense says that with the higher the rarity, the higher the price (with very little exceptions). Blitzen will eat your mp away so unless you're willing to pay 4+ mil, do NOT attempt. However, if you are, the mp rewards are generous and the viotto potion itself is worth 12+mil (with the rarer ones worth 20+ mil). Viotto potions are very easy to sell-- rarer ones may be more difficult as people are more unwilling to pay what they're worth.
Fates - Rp, Rp, Rp. Stock up as much as you can (300K RP is ideal). RP 1 - MP 10. Leprechaun is a fast way of making RP as well as restocking. Again, mp rewards are generous and yuni potions are easy to sell for LEs and popular.
