I used to tuck you in so you???d be safe and warm I used to hold you to my bosom when you were frightened by the storm
I could stand still for hours exploring the world in your eyes I could build you great towers But now it???s time for goodbyes
You walk away with pride, with your head held high Like you could, if you only would, reach out to the sky and take the silvery moon You turn, looking back once more and suddenly my heart grows sore And your smile makes me wonder Did I let you go too soon?
Go safely, my child May God send His angels to keep you from going astray Go bravely, my child Follow your heart???s lead and you will never lose your way
I used to wake you up by gently brushing your cheek And still, every bittersweet morning my loving hand your hand would seek
It is a bittersweet moment for a mother to let her offspring spread their wings and fly on their own. Are they ready? Have I prepared them enough? I'm not a mother yet but it is a poet's mission to imagine such emotions.
