I got my first AU upgrade today after 4 times through the Temple of Transformation. Never did I spend a cent in getting it, and the only thing I spent was time and hard work. This is why I get very annoyed at those who complain about not being able to buy upgrades. If you can afford it, buy it. But if you can't, go the route I did. It works just fine.
