I am sure almost every one has heard about an "emo". Well... you all probably think that an emo is some one who slits their wrists and cries in a corner for hours on end. Well if you do think that.. Congratulations you have just stereotyped an emo with out evening what they are. Emos don't slit their wrists.. that is a mental illness! Any one can freaking cry in a corner for hours. These days no one really knows what emo is. Post here if you agree that is it a really stupid thing to stereotype an emo as some who cuts themselves and cries all the time... also post what you think emo is...

your right, an emo does not slit their wrist ajd cry for hours on end. I am a goth and some of my closest friends are emos.
I think an emo is:
sort of similar to a goth in a way but rather than wear dark colours they can wear bright ones too for example:
black and red
grey and orange
etc
they also are very emotional and arent afraid to be what they want to be etc...

My friend is emo and I agree it is a steryotype. Emo prob stands for EMOtions. Some emos DO cut but 99% of them don't.

My take on it? Just because your emo, it doesn't mean you: cut, are bisexual, cry all the time, always wear black, or want to die. All that is a load of BS. In my opinion, it means over emotional. Someone who isn't afraid to be, or of themselves.

it is really stupid....people at school make fun of me and my friends for being emo....and they barely know us! yes ...i may be very emotional...but i dont cut myself for the hell of it! when me and my mom get into huge fights (physial, she doesnt abuse) i run to my room and absent mindedly go crazy and start punching the walls ...

....i know it might sound like im crazy...but im not. but ofcorse i dress sort of punkish...ya know...skinnny jeans, music tees, osiris shoes and stuff! lol

when people judge us like that...it just makes me wanna beat the crap out of them! its really annoying! emo to me is just being free to express yourself and and having fun.....i guess lolol <=D

yes emo is just short for very emotional. I have this really good friend, and he says he is emo. he doesn't cut, and he doesn't cry in a corner for hours. he dresses in black, and one time when he was depressed tried to kill himself, but most days he is a sweet caring guy who gave me a teddy bear when I was sick, and I think I am in love with him. and I love his hair.
