We have in the past had 1/3 off week and half price day. We won't have it at certain times of the year but randomly. When we reach 1,000,000 players we'll most likely have something like this as part of our celebrating. Why is the Sudoku puzzle in reverse, the quicker you complete the puzzle the less points you get? ~bluescarab The scoring for Sudoku is wrong and we will be changing it soon for the trophies. In the most recent Editorial, you said that you "already know" who Adblocks, and those who don't will be rewarded. Are you able to get rewards anytime after you disable your Adblocking software? ~jzbelle Yea, when I have it enabled properly, it will check several times a day to see if you block or not. Once you've replaced all the old arcade games, will you still relese 2 games a week? ~demon-kat7 For aslong as we can afford to pay for it, we will have 2 new games each week forever. Its really expensive, so unless we cannot afford to do so for a week or so, we will continue to do so. We want to have hundreds of flash games in our games section as quickly as possible. Do the shops really restock every 5 minutes? It sure seems like a LONG 5 minutes. ~kittapotomus Shops restock every 5 minutes, but sometimes one of the several shops may not restock anything. What internet browser does marapets work best in? ~Drask We are optimised to work best in Internet Explorer, because most of our players and the majority of the internet uses it. But if you are asking what I think the best browser is, I would say Mozilla. Not Firefox but the Mozilla 1.7.11 - it seems to load pages and images much faster than any other browser I've used. Will we be able to click on King Baspinar and the Vault? ~Grace951 Within the next few weeks actually. We are ahead of schedule with the improvements to the site and within two week's time we should have all of our broken areas of the site fixed and working fine. Once thats done, we'll have news almost everyday with something new released. When will the next shop be realeased? Do you know what it is going to sell? We usually have quite a lot of spelling mistakes in games, which sometimes work out better. Bounchy was supposed to be Bouncy, but I liked their mistake better. When you are doing maintenance on the site that will affect more than just that area wouldn't it be better to close the whole site till you are done? Leaving the site up and then having to deal with all the complaints about things not working seems like it would create more work for you. Especially when people wind up failing a level on a mission or losing items. ~boofer Whenever we have maintenance, most of the time its not planned and something has gone wrong. The site is huge and rarely is there so much down that the site is completely unplayable, therefore its always open. Not everyone complains, most people accept that to have a free site run on donations from players open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week is very difficult - especially one which is growing so quick. Hiya Ian, well i had an idea, see i was wondering if say you could put a feature on the site were you type in a item and however many there is of that item in marada that amount comes up, it just like helps to put a rarity in the back of your head as to how many items and how rare the item is, i suppose you could add more features like "15 in trades" "12 in shops" and so on and so forth. It might have to have a small fee of about 5-10MP for you to use it just to make sure that its not overused, it seems like it would be really resource intensive. Ian, When will shoes be released? We need a lot more items and a lot of shops have been promised for a while but not been completed. Hopefully it will be released very soon. I have not gotten an e-mail newsletter. Check site prefrences to make sure your account has a valid email address and that your email account accepts emails from marapets@gmail.com In past editorials, people have asked things like "how long are you going to let mara last?" You've told them that there was a really long list of things to do that will take years to finish, but what about when you're done with all that? Are you ever going to give or sell mara to someone, or just let it sit like so many other pet site owners have? ~vibey2 Marapets isn't going anywhere. We have plans that will take several years to complete and these plans keep getting bigger and bigger. We will not be selling the site. When the work gets too much, we hire extra people to help. There is no advantage for the site for us to sell it. I've noticed you can feed your minipets now, and I was wondering... can minipets die? Just wondering. ~Ishalian They will not die, but soon if they are neglected for too long, they will "run away" which means they'll unequip to your inventory. Then their age is reset, making avatars harder and trophies for minipet caring more difficult to get. When I see how expensive all the stuff is to keep the site running, I think to myself, "Wow! How does he do it?" I know there's the Account Upgrades and the Ad's and everything, but it doesn't seem like it'd pay for all of it. Has there ever been a time when you've thought about closing the site because it's too expensive? ~penguingrl94 There have been many times where the sites been so expensive that I wondered what we could do but we've always managed. We've taken out several huge loans which do not need to be paid for until next year too. I love what you've done with the site as far as all the graphics and how fast it loads now, but it seems like other things have changed. When you put in a name for the shop search and the results appear, all the usernames are "Buy Here". Whys that? Oh, and when will the shops where you can sell things for bp and rp be released? ~kokori21368 Basically, Marapets has grown so quickly and is so big now, in terms of data we have to save, the amount of changes that happen to our site every second and the amount of users that are playing all at once that we outgrew our old free database software Mysql, which reached its limit and gave a server errors all of the time at peak time. Basically, to let you know in context whats been happening over the past few weeks is that we moved to the database software Oracle, which costs us $32,000 a year just to use. We had to move all data from the old software to the new one, install and configure the servers to work with Oracle, recode the whole site to work with Oracle and then once we got it all working about a week ago, I've spent the past week recoding everything again optimising so that it works the fastest it possibly can and so that I can bring back parts of the site which I couldn't find a solution to before. The "Buy Here" showed because our new software has different programming language, and just like a few other parts of the site, such as gallery ordering, we had to change. Right now the sites being recoded yet again so that I can bring back some of the missing features - we have Online & Offline status back. We just need patience from our players, which is a lot to ask. But in context, it usually takes several months minimum for a site to make changes like we have gone through in the past 3 weeks, and most of ours was done in a week with only a few problems which were quickly fixed. In England they call it 'football' (which is a more sensible name, but..), but in the U.S. they call it 'soccer'. Since in the U.S. there's also a different sport called 'football', it would get confusing, don't you think? ~Halloweeny~ Being an English site, with an English owner and written in English the site will be like that. I doubt that people from the U.S. are that easily confused, but for those who are, you can just not play the game. If it was called Soccer, our English players and the owner would be confused, and we don't want that. But its not entirely predictable because you don't know what restocked and what will restock in these shops. Dont you think the Power station is a bad influence? I mean,There might be a little 5 year old kid playing the site,& they go to the city & they see a power station,they might think they are really good but really they are destroying the world. ~cherrythecomputer Power Stations might be polluting and "destroying the world" but I doubt the computer you are using to connect to the internet and play on Marapets is powered by renewable energy. Unless you do actually have a wind turbine on the roof of your house or a hamster running to power your computer, I think the powerstation in the City is fine. If you find it offensive, you should vote for Tree Huggers in the castle, they usually favour protecting the Maradan environment. Ian, Im tired of this. Do you have an iPod? ~Hollywood I had an iPod (the old 20GB one) and then gave it to a friend when I got an iPod Nano, which I don't really use because I have too much music for it. Ian why did you change all of your pets to pink Azuls? You had all those LE pets that now you dont have anymore. Sure you have 41 mill and probably hiding more and you can easily get them all back but why would you do that to your beautiful pets. ~DucLeJaques Good question. The answer is that as the battle and restocks server crashed, a few staff members got bored and thought I needed a new look. I look good in pink though don't you think? Will we be able to change who we vote for each month ~fishysims When I get back next week, the election results will be in and then a new election will begin, with a new manifesto for each of the three parties. How does your marapet get promoted in their job? ~morganp It was part of the Random Events which have been down for a while. Random Events will be back soon, with the odds being much, much, much better for those who do not block our ads. We will be adding a lot more random events too, such as random battle challenges from opponents not avaliable from trading cards and finding minipets in the wild that you cannot get elsewhere. |
