The Spoiled Under 30 Crowd
If you are 30 or older you will think this is hilarious!!!!
When I was a kid, adults used to bore me to tears with
their tedious diatribes about how hard things were
when they were growing up; what with walking
twenty-five miles to school every morning ... uphill
BOTH ways .. yadda, yadda, yadda
And I remember promising myself
that when I grew up, there was no way I was going
to lay a bunch of *&+^ like that on kids about how
hard I had it and how easy they've got it!
But now that...
I'm over the ripe old age of thirty, I can't help but look around and
notice the youth of today. You've got it so easy!
I mean, compared to my childhood, you live in a Utopia!
And I hate to say it but you kids today you don't know
how good you've got it!
I mean, when I was a kid we didn't have The Internet.
If we wanted to know something, we had to go to the
library and look it up ourselves, in the card
catalog!!
There was no email! ! We had to actually write somebody
a letter ... with a pen! Then you had to walk all the
way across the street and put it in the mailbox and it
would take like a week to get there!
There were no MP3's or Napsters! You wanted to steal music, you had to
hitchhike to the record store and shoplift it yourself!
Or you had to wait around all day to tape it off the radio and the
DJ would usually talk over the beginning and @#*% it all up!
We didn't have fancy stuff like Call Waiting! If you were on the phone
and somebody else called they got a busy signal, that's it!
And we didn't have fancy Caller ID Boxes either! When the phone rang,
you had no idea who it was! It could be your school, your mom,
your boss, your bookie, a collections agent, you just
didn't know!!! You had to pick it up and take your chances, mister!
We didn't have any fancy Sony Playstation video games
with high-resolution 3-D graphics! We had the Atari 2600!
With games like ' Space Invaders' and 'asteroids'
and the graphics were horrible! Your guy was a little square!
You actually had to use your imagination! And there were
no multiple levels or screens, it was just one screen forever!
And you could never win. The game just kept getting
harder and harder and faster and faster until you
died! . Just like LIFE!
When you went to the movie theater there no such thing
as stadium seating! All the seats were the same
height! If a tall guy or some old broad with a hat
sat in front of you and you couldn't see, you were
just out of luck!
Sure, we had cable television, but back then that was
only like 15 channels and there was no onscreen menu
and no remote control! You had to use a little book
called a TV Guide to find out what was on!
You were hooped when it came to channel surfing! You
had to get off your butt and walk over to the TV to
change the channel and there was no Cartoon Network
either! You could only get cartoons on Saturday
Morning. Do you hear what I'm saying!?! We had to
wait ALL WEEK for cartoons!
And we didn't have microwaves, if we wanted to heat
something up, we had to use the stove or go build a
fire ... imagine that! If we wanted popcorn, we had to use
that JiffyPop thinggy and shake it over the stove
forever like an idiot.
That's exactly what I'm talking about! You kids
today have got it too easy. You're spoiled.
You guys wouldn't have lasted five minutes back in
1980!

Regards,from "The over 30 crowd"

Shizuhu
love it all so true and so funny, i do remember the day the first man on the moon was televised we were lucky enough to have tv had neighbours came round to watch, and back in the 70's childrens tv only started at lunch time for a couple of hours ( watch with mother oh yes)then off to the test card till tea time ,couldn't sit your children in front of a box then, had to actually amuse and play with them oh so different now

Very fun read. : ) I recall one about how ppl in the 50's 60's and 70's stayed alive without seatbelt laws, driving in the back of pick up trucks etc. lol I love these. Thanks

Had to read it all... it's made me smile which is good as smiling makes you live longer so maybe see the next two instalments of when I was a child 60 years on. I wonder what fantastic things they'll have then!!!

OMG, all of it it SOO true. I'm 30 myself, so I know EXACTLY what your talking about!

Oh spark, Paul is still one of the worlds honestly sexy men. His singing doesn`t hurt either, I wish I`d been able to see him in person!

Hahahahahahahaha.
This is funny!
And, I'm not just over 50!
So, I'd have to add in...
we kids in the 1950's were lucky to have a TELEVISION and a RADIO.
Yep, and we'd no idea of what cable tv was (there was none, yet).
We had to hope and pray we'd get invited to someone's house who had a colour tv...
so we could watch Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Colour...
in COLOUR!!! (that was the early 1960's)
And, sure --an actual hand-written letter did take close to a week to get to its destination--unless it was going overseas...
by BOAT!!! (Those seemed quick if they got there within 2 WEEKS !
A bottle of Coca-Cola cost a NICKEL in the USA; when I was a kid. I even remember when the price was raised to SIX CENTS.
Ohhhhhh, golly....Maybe it really was a long time ago...but I can remember it as if it were yesterday.
I'll mention this, then I'll hush--I thought Paul McCartney was the most handsome man I'd ever seen;
when I was 13 and he was 21. Well, I'm now 58 and he's now 66 years old and I STILL THINK HE's the HANDSOMEST MAN I'VE EVER SEEN.
Think it's pretty ironic that my grandchild and his youngest child are nearly the same age, too. Geeeeee, would I EVER LOVE to get together with that crew!! We'd be the singing-est, dancing-est, laughing-est, hugging-est batch of people you'd ever care to meet.
FOR SURE.

Lmao your not kidding coalcutiesdad!
I have twins that are almost 7, and although they are very active, would die if half the stuff "they have" now was gone!

Sounds like your wife and I may be in cohoots, because when they come to me with the in the belly question, I say "go ask your dad"!
lol
