Mikuano is a special turtle to their owner only because of the condition they were found in. When Bilbo found his way to Mikuano the poor creature was abandoned in the middle of a lake, a sad and hungry little turtle that was clearly used to being indoors.
When Bilbo took in the new pet he reasoned that he would only care for the pet back to health and then find a nice owner with more time on their hands to care for them the way they deserved, but when the creature began to sparkle and glow after a trip to a strange scientist, their relationship seemed much more clear.
Bilbo and Mikuano understand each other and practically never leave each others side, save for when Mikuano is training. While Bilbo has other pets Mikuano is even a help with them, caring and understanding as if they were all from the same family even if they were three very different species.
